Coffee Talk: Comfort for Today

There is certainly much to pray about in the world today. The areas of Japan, Afghanistan, Libya, and Haiti are specifically on my mind. When I find myself burdened I try to remember that God is in control; he has all power in his hands. He knows what he is doing and there is a purpose for what we are experiencing in this season of life.

I try to comfort myself with the scriptures:

There is a time for everything,

And a season for every activity under heaven:

A time to be born and a time to die,

A time to plant and a time to uproot,

A time to kill and a time to heal,

A time to tear down and a time to build,

A time to weep and a time to laugh,

A time to mourn and a time to dance,

A time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,

A time to embrace and a time to refrain,

A time to search and a time to give up,

A time to keep and a time to throw away,

A time to tear and a time to mend,

A time to be silent and a time to speak,

A time to love and a time to hate,

A time for war and a time for peace.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

Is anybody celebrating in this season? What has you laughing or dancing these days?

  1. I am just taking it one day at a time. I am comforted by Habakkuk 3:17-19: Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cutt off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls: Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation. The Lord God is my strength, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places…

I count it all joy. God is in contol. I celebrate in the joy of God being God.

  2. Everything seems frazzled around me, and I am certainly reminded that I’m not in control. It makes me crazy if I don’t stop, laugh outloud at the thought I could possibly put it all back into my idea of “order”, and then take heart that God knows what is going on and even will make something out of it. I’m with Renee about celebrating the joy that God brings us even in our frazzled states!

  3. You ladies have reminded me of the importance of “Celebrating Small Wins”:

Today, I celebrate the must needed rain that we received on last night.

    The beautiful spring weather.

The fact that the people who are building the house next door to us are not too noisy.

My husband came home to fix my computer so that I can work.

I went to the hair salon.

Everyone in my house-hold is healthy, and God has provided for us and kept us safe.

That I have faith and hope for now and in the future.

    Love, Natasha
