Hello Beautiful People,
I had the privilege of being a guest on the Pass the Mic Podcast hosted by Tyler Burns and Jemar Tisby and brought to you by The Witness: (A Black Christian Collective). Find out more at https://thewitnessbcc.com/

Writing What I Live with Natasha Sistrunk Robinson: Tyler Burns and Jemar Tisby are joined by Natasha Sistrunk Robinson to talk about both of her books Journey to Freedom: Discovering the God of Deliverance Bible Study & Voices of Lament: Reflections on Brokenness and Hope in a World. (Credit of episode description above given to Pass the Mic podcast).
Women of color know how to have joy in the mourning. We know how to lead in the dark…Generally, women of color are not those who abandon God because things don’t go our way…we are postured to know how to suffer well because we have a suffering Servant. We go to Jesus because where else are we going to go?
Natasha Sistrunk Robinson
In this episode I share the process of my Voices of Lament project, including why I felt it was important to hear and learn from women of color that come from all different kinds of backgrounds and cultures. I also discuss why topic of lament is important and how it is relevant in our culture today. During the conversation, I also share insights about my Journey to Freedom Exodus Bible Study, the hours research that I went through to be able to pour into this project and share what I had learned. Tyler Burns, Jemar Tisby and I also unpack the significance of the Old and New Testament, specifically discussing taking the time to study the Old Testament in order to further our understanding about God and who He has called us to be.
I believe in the West, we have a New Testament church with an Old Testament practice of theology. We have set up the church, the building, not the body, as a tabernacle where the pastor is the priest. Where everybody is waiting for the pastor to give them a Word from the Lord and the pastor to tell them what to do…but the problem is Jesus has become our great High Priest, He is perfect in every way that the Levitical priests were not.
